Social Media Day

If you have a Facebook account or actively engage with others on Twitter, you must already know that social media isn’t just a force to be reckoned with… but a venue where fun things happen!

It gets even better when you actually know the people you engage with on a personal level. That’s what tweetups are for. It gives everyone the opportunity to know more about the people you chat with beyond what their profile pics will ever reveal.

I’ve been to quite a number of tweetups already and every one of ‘em has been a blast!

It may be intimidating for others to not know anyone at first but don’t let nerves get the best of you. Just keep in mind that everyone attending a tweetup has at one time or another been an uneasy stranger during his/her first attendance. Don’t fret! People are extra friendly and accommodating. Believe me, hanging out on Twitter after being in one of these tweetups makes the experience of being online extra fun and more enjoyable.

Tweetups are also awesome “networking” opportunities – explore business openings, find sideline jobs, heck… even discover your long lost soulmate in the process!

Just come… Come for curiosity’s sake… stay for the fun.

That being said… get ready for a major tweetup on Saturday, June 30, 2012 at 4:00PM!

Bakunado!

Together with my wife and son, I recently had my annual flu shot.  My daughter, Ella, was supposed to be with us but she wasn’t feeling too well so her shot has to be rescheduled.

The process was quick and easy although it made my arm ache the remainder of that day.  Oh well… small price to pay for a year’s worth of flu protection.

I was able to video my son while he was receiving his shot.  Enjoy the video.

Brave kid.  If only I was like him when I was his age. LOL!

TEDxKatips

I was pretty stoked when I was invited to attend the much anticipated TEDx event at Ateneo de Manila University which was held just recently. It’s a TED event! Who doesn’t wanna be there?

TEDxKatipunanAve

For the benefit of those who don’t know exactly what TED is or doesn’t know the difference between TED and TEDx, the brief video below explains it perfectly:

It was an awesome event. A jam-packed Leong Hall with tons of powerful and inspirational talks laced with good amounts of humor and laughter made TEDxKatips a huuuuuge success.

Talks were given by notable personalities aimed to fire up and inspire the audience. The overall theme that afternoon was “REVOLUTION”, remaining true to the name of the avenue on which this event was held – “Katipunan”, the name of the group of Filipino revolutionaries back in the late 1800s who gave up their lives fighting for our nation’s freedom and independence.

Old and new friends alike flocked to the venue expecting no less than to be inspired, empowered and on-fire. True enough, on-fire they were not even five minutes through the first talk. Amazing.

Pretty Cool “It’s More Fun In The Philippines” Video

Not quite sure if this is an official TV ad for DOT’s “It’s More Fun In The Philippines” campaign.  It’s pretty awesome if you ask me… fan-made or not, it definitely is worth a watch.

Enjoy, folks!

Nice! It truly gives out that “It’s more fun in the Philippines” vibe, don’t it?

Responsible Facebooking (Phishing 101)

FacebookPhishing scams thrive best on social networking sites… and since practically everyone has an account on Facebook, it’s no wonder that this is the most exploited platform used to maliciously obtain passwords and confidential information from innocent users.

But, a phishing scam is actually quite easy to avoid.  It takes little intelligence and a lot of common sense to prevent yourself from being victimized by these evildoers.  As with most things in life, the best form of protection and prevention is through knowledge and information.

With so many of my friends (as well as acquaintances) sending me messages on Facebook and Twitter with links to obviously “too good to be true” promos, I can pretty much gather by the number of infected accounts that not a whole lot of people are knowledgeable on how phishing sites operate.

Facebook finally addressed this most serious situation and released a short video on how to spot an obvious scam and how not to be lured into one.  If you haven’t seen this video yet, best that you watch it below.

Should you need additional information, step-by-step guides on how to protect your account, check out Facebook’s Advanced Security Tips by clicking here.

Protect yourself and others – it’s easy if you take the time to equip yourself with proper knowledge and know-how.  Likewise, spread the word.

Don’t just Facebook.  Facebook responsibly.

It’s your duty.

Awesome MiLi Promo

Most, if not all of you, already use smartphones, right?

You probably know how power-hungry these gadgets are especially when you’re dabbling with ‘em all day long – they suck the life out of their own batteries like blood-thirsty vampires and before you know it, you’re left with a dead phone.

Sadly, a dead powerless phone is no more useful than a dumb paperweight.

How many times have you wished that your phone’s battery had extra juice?

Whether you’re a student preparing for the long haul in school… or thinking of what neat gift to get dad for Father’s Day on June 17, there’s no better time to than NOW to grab a MiLi Power Star.  The perfect (and much needed) partner for your smartphone*.

The Power Star has a capacity of 2,000mAh, able to add another lifecycle to your device. It is compact and light, with no wire or adapter clutter. The micro-USB tip cleanly folds back into the Power Star.
