Imagine your usual television set (assuming yours has an HDMI port) instantly converted into a Smart TV in a matter of seconds. Sounds unbelievable? Believe it.
Pocket TV, a device developed by a Dubai-based company called, Infinitec, plans to “smarten” every regular television set with their nifty plug-in device for the cheap! This amazing device runs Android 4.0 and, by plugging it into your television’s HDMI port, will allow you to do to on your television set anything you could normally do on a regular smartphone like surfing the web, playing games and even video chatting. Pretty awesome, ain’t it?
It even comes with a USB port so you can plug in a keyboard or a mouse. Likewise, it also sports an SD card for additional storage.
Not bad for something that’ll reportedly cost a little over $160 only. The Pocket TV starts production this month and is expected to be available by October.

I was just going through a bunch of videos on YouTube earlier and stumbled upon a not so old song by Michael Buble entitled, “Everything”. And though it actually ain’t that new to me, it sounded quite fresh again after all these years.
It’s a wonderful song, really. Not to mention, Buble has a superb voice – the Sinatra of our generation, in my opinion.
Unlike most “disposable” tunes that are shoved down our throats ears on a daily basis over the radio nowadays (not ALL… but MOST), Michael Buble puts out instant classics. The kind of songs our children should be listening to more often.

Endless nights of conceptualization and layout designing.
That was the scene in recent days for me and my wife as we eagerly finished her “AmbassadOREO” entry for OREO’s 100th Birthday Celebration. For those scratching their heads and thinking to themselves, “What is an AmbassadOREO anyway?”, you can check out my wife’s travel blog entry to know about it in detail. Basically, my wife and 2 other bloggers (Anton Diaz of “Our Awesome Planet” and Richie Zamora of “The Pickiest Eater“) were invited by OREO to post their respective 100 OREO Moments as their entries for the AmbassadOREO competition.
These bloggers are tasked to compile and present “100 OREO Moments” on their blogs. How they collect these moments is totally up to them. They were given exactly a week to complete their entry and put it up online. Quite a daunting task given the limited amount of time. But help is allowed… the bloggers are allowed to seek help and assistance from friends, loved ones and acquaintances to send in their personal captured OREO moments. How these moments are presented in terms of creativity and execution is up to each blogger.
Among the three bloggers of which my wife is one of, OREO will select the most creative entry – the one which most depicts what OREO stands for… fun, happiness, love, childlike innocence and togetherness. The blogger whose entry is selected will be hailed as “Blogger AmbassadOREO”.
For such a challenging task, one must wonder what kind of prize the winner will be merited with.
Well, the lucky person who will be crowned “Blogger AmbassadOREO” will be sent to New York with his/her companion (all expense paid, of course) to accompany the AmbassadOREO family who will be representing our country during OREO’s 100th Birthday Celebration. These AmbassadOREOs will be billeted at the “Waldorf Astoria” for an entire week with a substantial amount of pocket money. Awesome, right???

I love watching NBA and PBA games. I have always been a basketball freak – staying up in the wee hours of the morning watching live coverages on television, collecting DVD box-sets of my fave teams, even watching old reruns of basketball games.
For the longest time, I’ve been a Chicago Bulls fan. Over in the PBA, I used to be a fan of Ginebra. I also love playing basketball. It doesn’t take much convincing for me to lace up a pair of rubber shoes and get on the court to play. I would join countless league games with friends all year round. Doesn’t matter how near or far these games are played at as long as I get to satiate my basketball hunger.
Earlier this week, I was invited by Ferds Bondoy of Tatak Digitista and the Mall of Asia Arena to attend the “PLDT All-Star Basketball Challenge” press conference and the actual game the day after that. There was never any question or doubt if I was going to the event or not. I was like a giddy kid, excited to get up, close and personal with basketball idols such as Dennis Rodman, Scottie Pippen and Jason Williams. Heck! I’d be a fool not to go.
The game was going to pit the US All-Star legends against our very own Philippine All-Star legends – and though it was pretty much a no-brainer which team would win, there was no way in hell I was going to miss this once in a lifetime event.
So off I went with my wife who is also a basketball fan and equally giddy as I was (yup, she was included in the invite too). The press conference was held inside the Mall of Asia Arena itself… just beside the playing court. Since we were coming from a location quite far away from the venue, we decided to hit the road really early in anticipation of the terrible traffic that usually happens along Edsa. Surprisingly, there was hardly any traffic or congestion! We arrived at the Mall of Asia Arena an hour and a half earlier than expected. No worries… better to kill time nearby, rather than being stuck on the road desperately trying to avoid being late.
We entered the press conference area where most of the press and photographers were already setting up and positioning their cameras and gadgets. Some PBA legends like Jojo Lastimosa, Jerry Codinera and Bong Hawkins were already seated and whiling the minutes away. We were told that the US All-Stars have already arrived at the airport and that they will be heading straight to the MOA Arena for the presscon. I got more excited.
Saw a few friends at the press conference as well such as TJ Manotoc, Tracy Abad and Chino Trinidad.
Moments later, the US All-Stars started entering the press conference area as press and photographers started scuffling and jostling for position. It was surreal… I mean, who would’ve thought I’d be in the same room as these basketball icons, let alone be merely an arm’s length away from them?
It was an awesome press conference. In fact, even Dennis Rodman who is known to be very volatile and unpredictable answered a lot of questions thrown at him by the press.

A little more than a year after our very first Manila Bay dinner cruise, my wife and I were invited by Ms. Aileen Ng of Pirmi Travel Services to revisit this wonderful attraction and to enjoy the improvements and upgrades they’ve added.
And so, here we are again!
I’d like to thank Pirmi Travel for this really wonderful treat! What was already great back then has become way better. We had tons of fun. A must try for everyone… especially love birds.

Some of you probably still remember the group, “Two Minds Crack”… the band that performed the New Wave hit song, “Upside Down”, back in the early 80s.
A band I used to co-manage years back named, “Candles”, did an awesome remake of this hit single. This particular version was included in the group’s debut album which came out during the last quarter of 2006 under Viva Records. Long before 6CycleMind’s version was ever released.
When I first featured the song on my old blog years back, I got a surprise visit by Two Minds Crack band member, Kevin Jones! He actually left a short comment below my post commending the band on how well he thought the remake was done. His message was as follows:
“Hi, I was the lead singer/guitarist in Two Minds Crack and I wrote Upside Down – I really enjoyed the Candles version – keep up the good work!!”
A few weeks after that, I got another message on the same post… but this time it came from Two Minds Crack co-member, Pete Martin! His message:
“Greetings Candles…loved the version of Upside Down. Don’t listen to Kevin Jones…. I wrote upside down…. I was guitarist and keyboard player in Two Minds Crack… that Jones fella gets everywhere! Joking aside, we wrote that and first recorded it back in 1983 ish, the finished version being released on The Victory Parade album in 1986. We didn’t find out until the 90’s that it was a big hit over there which was a shame cos to be sure we would have come out and played some gigs. It’s a big thrill to hear someone cover one of your tracks believe me. Keep rocking in the free world son…..and at least you got Kev’s words correct !!! Pete.”
Hahaha… I was particularly amused by his last words (“and at least you got Kev’s words correct!!!”) coz I also found out that Pete was well aware of 6CycleMind’s version. And listening closely to their own rendition of the 80s New Wave classic, you’ll notice that there is quite a number of inaccurate lyrics in it.
It’s a shame Candles disbanded so early in their careers… but things like these do happen. Oh well… I guess that’s that.
I suppose it’s only appropriate that I feature Candles’ version of “Upside Down” for everyone to enjoy. So… without further ado…
