Apologies Apologies…

It seems Mr. Robert “Blair” Carabuena has finally surfaced and showed up at the MMDA office to make a public apology for violent actions he committed towards MMDA Traffic Enforcer, Saturnino “Sonny” Fabros, recently.

Carabuena Apologizes

I really don’t know what to make of this right now.  A few questions linger in my head…

Would Mr. Carabuena have apologized had he not been caught on video?  Would he have even cared what kind of humiliation he caused Mr. Fabros had he not caught the ire of the public and practically the entire social media population?  Perhaps… perhaps not.

Watch the short clip below:

Here is a transcript of his apology:

Apology Speech

An apology is good… it’s a step towards healing… if the act is sincere.

IF being the operative word.

“Kinailangan kong humingi ng payo sa aking pamilya at mga kaibigan, gayon na rin sa aking mga abogado.”, said Carabuena.

Excuse me, Mr. Carabuena… but did it really have to take the advice of friends, family and lawyers to convince you to show your face and make an apology?  Conscience alone would tell you that apologizing is the right and just thing to do.

Stop reiterating how much “heat” you took from people in social media… it serves you right.  You should be lucky – you’re only getting verbal beatings from everyone unlike the follow-thru hit you so “studly” delivered to Mr. Fabros’ face after a barrage of cursing and shouting wasn’t enough to satisfy your temper.

The gall to even ask MMDA to allow you to drive while the case of your license revocation is ongoing.

Funny how you used “kagalang-galang” FOUR TIMES in your apology in addressing MMDA Chairman Tolentino… it sure didn’t seem like you respected him and the authority he represents when you embarrassed a uniformed Mang Sonny in the middle of MMDA work.

I find it all too superficial.

Then again, I may be wrong.

Of Holding On… Forgiveness… and Love

Earlier, my wife and I went over the topic of how my mother’s passing on exactly the eve of my birthday could’ve actually been more deliberate on her part rather than coincidental.

You see, my mom and I never really saw eye to eye on a lot of things.  We’d disagree a lot of times.

A couple of weeks before she passed, there was a prodding from inside of me to talk to my mother about certain moments in our lives wherein our “less petty” disagreements have affected our relationship towards one another – to put some sense of definite closure on things.  But her stubborn denial of her own sickness was a hurdle too difficult for me to overcome.  She gets all worked up when I, together with my wife and kids surround her… she would normally say, “Ano ba kayo??? Wag niyo ako paligiran. Para naman akong mamamatay na sa itsura ninyo”.  She would react defensively when sensing that things are getting too serious.  Perhaps, it was her way of coping with her sickness… a means to shun the thought of coming to terms with what was inevitable.

I feared that if I spoke to her even in the slightest tone that would somewhat resemble reconciliation and forgiveness, she would freak out and push me away.  She’s like that.  And stressing her out with the kind of condition that she has was the last thing I’d want to do.

My mom and I are “ok”.  I guess, there is that unspoken forgiveness that mothers always extend to their children no matter what circumstance.  I’ve always sought comfort in that for as long as I can remember.  But things are a bit different this time… I was looking for something more concrete – a sort of confirmation that things are really OK between me and my mother.  It was something I was hoping to get before she leaves me.

But it was not to be.

An Ass And A Half

I complain a lot about how our police force is infested with “buwayas” and “kotong cops”… about how most of us never feel secure anymore regardless if there’s an officer around.

That being said, no one should be above the law still.

No person wearing a badge, especially one who is merely doing his/her job, should be disrespected, manhandled, or humiliated in any way. Respect should always be accorded, especially to a person in uniform.

Sad to say, Mr. Robert Blair Carabuena, did exactly the opposite. And he did it with all the world to see.

Mr. Carabuena was caught by TV5′s camera crew humiliating and mauling an MMDA traffic enforcer not even half his size – pointing his finger right at the poor man’s face, gesturing to punch him, hitting his head with a cap repeatedly, and slapping him hard on the face.

Watch the video below and see how much of an ass (and a half) Mr. Carabuena displays himself to be.

Don’t bother looking him up online. From what I gather, he has already deactivated and/or deleted his Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts. Apparently, this person can verbally abuse, bash and humiliate a person in broad daylight, in the middle of traffic where everyone can see his actions BUT cannot take the same bashing from appalled people on the internet.

Mr. Carabuena, all you are is an overweight, loud-mouthed coward who picks on people smaller than your own size. I hope you get what’s coming to you… jerk.

My middle finger applauds you.

This lame excuse of a man is an Ateneo alumnus and Philip Morris International’s HR Manager.

Indeed, breeding can never be bought, nor taught in school or in the workplace as clearly demonstrated by Mr. Robert “Blair” Carabuena.

You and Your Megabyte

How much is a megabyte (MB) really worth – A couple of clicks?  A few Facebook “likes”?  A handful of tweets?

Knowing how much one (1) MB is worth is a great way to determine how “online-heavy” you are.  This will also aid you in selecting which type of data plan fits your needs and how NOT to breach your subscription’s threshold.

That being said, Globe has prepared a few infographics to help give you an idea of how much data you consume.

Globe has also provided a chart of their Powersurf Plans which you could easily choose from based on your online needs and behavior.

May the Lord bless you all for your thoughtfulness, sympathies, prayers and support.
Thank you.

MyPhone A818 Duo – Video Review

This is my video review of the MyPhone A818 Duo – an insanely affordable (yet very functional) Android smartphone.

Since most gadgets & devices always look good on paper but sometimes fall short during actual (real life) usage, I decided not to delve on the technical specifications of the phone and concentrated instead on how functional and useable this device is.

Enjoy.

So what did you think?

What wasn’t covered during this video review is the “Pinoy Content” SIM which comes along with it. That particular SIM contains all the Pinoy factoids, prayers, trivias, which can be easily accessible via a featured app that comes with the phone itself.

Also, games and apps aren’t reviewed in-depth since a person with common knowledge of what an Android OS is capable of is well aware of what this smartphone can deliver.  If you are still wondering if games and apps run smoothly on this device… the quickest answer to that is – fair enough.  Not blazingly fast, but not crawling either.  Then again, performance varies depending on what app or game is used on it.  It works.

No complaints here.  For a device that costs Php 3,999.00, you get all the bells and whistles you could ever ask for (except for 3G capability).

What’s your take on the MyPhone A818 Duo?

Leave your comments below and let’s start a healthy discussion.  Cheers.
