It seems that Globe Telecom’s customizable and innovative offers, particularlyGlobe Prepaid GoSakto and TM Extend has gained impressive traction in the prepaid market.

Globe Telecom continues to strengthen its share in the prepaid market as it gained more prepaid subscribers in the first quarter of 2013 amidst the aggressive acquisition strategies of its competitors.

The Ayala-led telco added over 506,000 subscribers during the period for its Globe Prepaid brand, up 32% and 71% from last year and last quarter, respectively. Meanwhile, its mass market brand TM gained close to 1.4 million subscribers, almost three times the level in the same period last year and almost twice the level in the previous quarter. As a result, net subscriber additions, including postpaid, increased substantially to 2.0 million, more than double last year’s level of about 984,000 and 90% higher than previous quarter’s 1.1 million net incremental subscribers.

As of end-March 2013, Globe total prepaid subscriber base stood at 33.3 million, up 13 percent year-on-year from 29.5 million the previous year, with the TM subscriber base growing by 20% on the back of affordable and competitive voice, SMS, and mobile internet offers for the DE market.

Hope you guys aren’t easily overwhelmed by numbers and figures. LOL!

“Our mobile business remains fundamentally strong and continues to be in an uptrend given the success of the programs that we have implemented particularly, the revolutionary customizable plans that are now being enjoyed by our prepaid subscribers. With Globe GoSakto, gone are the days where subscribers have to content themselves with pre-made or canned promos. You can now create, customize, and design your very own prepaid promo based on your liking, plus name it and share it on Facebook,” said KD Dizon, Head of Globe Prepaid.

In the first quarter of the year, Globe Prepaid unveiled its GoSakto service, a game-changing innovation that lets prepaid subscribers create their own prepaid promo from scratch and choose the type and number of calls, texts and data they need for the day, week, or month, based on their needs, budget, and lifestyle. Globe Prepaid subscribers can also name their promo and share it on Facebook. Subscribers can create their GoSakto promo via the self-service menu *143#, the Globe website at www.globe.com.ph/gosakto, or the GoSakto Facebook App at apps.facebook.com/gosakto.

According to Issa Cabreira, Head of TM, the ‘astig’ brand of Globe will continue its commitment of providing innovative and affordable promos.

“We understand that our subscribers value their hard earned money, that is why TM is committed to give subscribers value for money promos like the TM Extend that stretch the life of any TM promo for only P5, a cost that’s definitely easy on the pocket of every Filipino,” Cabreira said.

TM, the mass market brand of Globe has strengthened its position in the market with its customized offers and promos especially in the regions, where it has steadily attracted a strong base of consumers who look for value-for-money call, text and mobile internet services.

TM Unli Facebook

TM broke new ground with its own innovation: TM EXTEND, a service that extends the validity of its best-selling promos by 24 hours. Subscribers can now enjoy connections with friends and family even if they have only P5.00 to spare for the day. The mass market brand also launched a new denomination for its AstigFB mobile internet service to provide subscribers with unlimited Facebook usage for 2 days for only P15.

It’s pretty clear that when you offer something that helps customers save more and provide creative and ingenious options on how to go about it, guaranteed success follows. Great going, Globe & TM!

PREVIOUS PARTS: Day 1 (Part 1 of 3), Day 1 (Part 2 of 3)

Our next destination… the busy, crowded, festive and restaurant-riddled street of Jalan Alor.

This is one long strip of road that seems to never sleep at night.  The entire stretch of Jalan Alor is lined with all sorts of food stalls, with tables and chairs that overflow from their respective restos and stretch out to the sidewalk and practically takes up almost a third of the street itself.  If you’re into ihaw-ihaw and al fresco dining, this is the spot to hit.

If you’re familiar with banchetto, imagine that but a couple of times bigger.  Best to dress down and dig in when you’re here!  Just be sure to keep your wallet and valuables close to you.  I enjoyed this place a whole lot!  Good food, awesome crowd, party atmosphere… it’s just very Pinoy, me thinks!

You will also see a few stalls selling souvenirs and knick-knacks along the way.  Best to check them out if your looking to purchase a few “I LOVE KL” shirts.

After dinner and about an hour of scouring the nearby shops for stuff to bring home to the Philippines, a few of us including myself decided to walk all the way back to our hotel.

Why not? Walking was the best way to see more of Kuala Lumpur… to breathe the air, to appreciate the traffic noise, to enjoy the nightlife along the way.  Immersion, baby!  Yeah!

Day 1 of our tour was an absolute success!  It was everything I had imagined Malaysia to be and so much more.  Little did I know that there were more wonderful sights and adventures in store for us the next day…

(To be continued… Watch out for DAY 2 very soon!)

PREVIOUS PART: Day 1 (Part 1 of 3)

Our first stop along the way was the new National Palace of Malaysia called, Istana Negara.

To say that Istana Negara is BIG is an understatement. Huge does not even come close to describing the place. Istana Negara is absofrickinlutely massive! You’ve got to be there to actually realize how vast and overwhelming the National Palace is.

After a good number of “Look! I’ve been here!” photos all over the outer grounds of the palace including some fun pics with the palace guards, we left Istana Negara to have late lunch. Yipee!

Though lunch was a tad late, it was very filling as much as it was fulfilling! Truly, much of a people’s culture and heritage can be learned through their food. And if eating is learning, then this particular lunch can be likened to a whole day lecture! I believe I ate more than my usual. Thank, God, I brought my stash of Carbtrim to even out the carbs I took in. *burp!*

After what seemed to be a foodfest over lunch, we went straight to our hotel - The Berjaya Times Square.

Apart from our hotel rooms lookin’ really swell, I found it equally awesome that Berjaya is located right smack in the heart of the city. It makes exploring the metropolis that much easier.

We, checked into our respective rooms and were given about an hour to freshen up, unpack and relax a bit before meeting up at the hotel lobby again to make the most of our first day.

An hour passed and sure enough, we were all gathered at the lobby ready to head out and see more of Kuala Lumpur. Let’s go!

Next stop – Kuala Lumpur City Gallery!

Everything you need to know about KL like its history, culture, art and society can be easily learned by stopping by this awesome place. One interesting factoid that stuck in my head was that the name, “Kuala Lumpur”, actually meant “mouth of the muddy river”. See…! I’ve been paying attention to Marie’s lectures while simultaneously taking a ton of photos inside the gallery. Haha!

You’ll notice a good number of other tourists here as well.  If you happen to be in Kuala Lumpur for a few days, make sure to drop by the City Gallery.

Before we knew it, it was dinnertime already!  We didn’t realize it right away because at 7:30pm, Malaysia’s sky is still very bright!

St. Augustine once said, “the world is a book, and those who do not travel read only a page”.

As a person who has gone to quite a number of places around and beyond our country, this particular saying breathes deeper meaning to me all the more. Truly, one must not be easily satisfied with merely being stuck in his/her own corner of the world, not caring about what lies out there in the distance.

Traveling, apart from the fun and excitement that comes with it, is a means to open one’s eyes to the world around us beyond what books and stories can ever do. This, among other things, is what prods me to explore further and to travel farther… to embrace every chance to go forth and see more of the world.

So, it goes without saying that when I was recently invited to go on a familiarization tour of Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia by Zest Air, AirAsia and Fleishman Hillard, I pounced at the opportunity immediately.

This tour, which took place just last May 10, 2013, coincided with ZestAir’s inaugural flights to three (3) new destinations in the region: Manila to Bacolod, Manila to Kuala Lumpur, and Manila to Kota Kinabalu.

“Tourism Malaysia is delighted that Zest Air is launching its maiden flights to Kuala Lumpur and Kota Kinabalu. This initiative certainly comes at the perfect time since Malaysia will be celebrating its fourth Visit Malaysia Year (VMY) in 2014 and this year has been designated as the VMY promotional campaign year. We seek to attract more tourists from the Philippines to Malaysia. I am confident that this enhanced connectivity will be able to boost tourist arrivals from the Philippines to Malaysia.”, said Ms. Fazdila Mansor, Director of Tourism Malaysia Manila.

Cool blogger friends! (Standing/L-R) CA, Alex, Ruth, Rey, Jen, Enzo & Mae. (Squatting in front/L-R) Ferds, me & Azrael.

I joined an awesome (and hilarious) group of cool fellow bloggers making the 3-day trip much more exciting – CA de Ramos, Alex Dizon, Ruth Floresca, Rey Belen, Jennifer Adams Juan, Enzo Luna, Mae Ilagan & Frank Ruaya, Ferds Bondoy and Azrael Coladilla.

Z2948 was our designated flight and we were all ready to depart for Kuala Lumpur at 6:45AM. Everyone was in high spirits and raring to go.

I, personally, was excited to visit and know more about a country wherein last year, more than 500,000 Filipinos headed off to for work, business and tourism.

Notice that the flight attendants who accompanied us during the trip donned red uniforms instead of Zest Air’s usual green & orange.  This is due to the fact that Zest Air presently has a strategic alliance with AirAsia. This partnership only means bigger and better things for both companies.

Another group of Zest Air guests were scheduled to fly to Kota Kinabalu at 9:35AM of the same day.  This particular group was comprised of travel bloggers, passengers including celebrity singer, songwriter, and 1/3 of the my favorite APO Hiking Society, Jim Paredes.

So, off we went!

The flight to Kuala Lumpur was expected to take about 3 hours & 25 minutes. So, I made sure I had a ton of gadgets to keep me busy inside the plane. But, because I had to wake up unusually early for our flight, my body was still craving for sleep. I barely even got far playing a few rounds of Angry Birds when I eventually dozed off for most of the trip.

And so, at around 10:25AM, we finally arrived at the Low Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT) of Malaysia. Even though we barely had enough sleep and were quite hungry already, you can actually feel the excitement in the air. Everyone was just ready to hit the city, have fun and make the most of the day.

And because bloggers like us love to constantly snap pics of just about anything that catches our fancy, the moment we landed, it was an absolute photo-fest – selfies, groupies, emo shots, dramatic angles, name it we’ve done it! LOL!

Good thing I subscribed to Globe’s Bridge Data Unli Roaming package before leaving for Malaysia. I was able to make sure that my roaming subscription was activated before the flight to avoid being charged outrageous fees abroad. The $40.00 I spent for the 5-day unli roaming package was well worth the cost! I was tweeting, Instagram-ing, Facebook-ing all the pics I was taking in realtime to my heart’s content. I was even making calls to my family back in the Philippines using Viber and Apple’s Facetime. Awesome! (Thanks, Globe!)

For those who aren’t really into roaming packages, we noticed a few prepaid cards being sold in the airport that offered a good number of minutes for international and local calls as well as a decent amount of Megabytes for mobile internet.

At the airport, we were met by the wonderful people of Tourism Malaysia. They were very warm and seemed very happy to see us… in fact, they even presented cute flowers to each of us. There, we met a kind lady by the name of “Marie”. She was assigned to be our tour guide during the entire trip. Marie was very jolly and was a joy to be with. She shared tons of stories and made it a point to make us feel at home at all times.

From the airport, we boarded our designated tour bus and headed off to Kuala Lumpur’s city proper which took about 40 minutes of travel time from LCCT. We all wanted to sleep but the urge to look out the window and see the country’s landscape was just too strong to resist.

My little girl, Ella, loves to dress up. She actually dresses up like she’s headed to the mall even when we have no plans of leaving our house at all. Hahaha!

She’s very picky with the stuff she puts on. She loves clothing and accessories that are not only beautiful but long lasting too.

And because she loves to boast that we look alike (we really do!), she was equally glad that we both now have our own pair of awesome shoes courtesy of our cool friends from Skechers!

I’ve got some great exclusive inside info on what kind of device MyPhone is coming up with next!  Are you ready for it?!

MyPhone’s upcoming device will be suited with a 1Ghz Dual Core processor which will be sporting a very unique feature that many of you might want to get a hold of – 3D!  Yes… 3D!

Introducing… the MyPhone A919 3D Duo!

A919 3D Duo (Front)

A919 3D Duo (Back)

The physical appearance of this smartphone seems quite similar and no different from its other A919 brothers… but don’t be fooled by its looks.  The A919 3D Duo does not require special glasses in order to view 3D images properly.  With this new Android Jellybean powered device, you can enjoy 3D images using the naked eye.

Here are the FULL SPECIFICATIONS of the MyPhone A919 3D Duo

This is how the MyPhone A919 3D Duo is officially described:

All the 3D excitement and action are now not just for the big screen as MyPhone offers the A919 3D Duo. This smartphone takes after its predecessor’s display size—only this time, it’s a 5” Naked Eye 3D (WVGA) Display. Thus, a real 3D experience minus the 3D glasses. Its 5MP 3D Camera can let you spruce up your posts on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram with 3D images. And with just a few taps and swipes, you can share your very own 3D photos either via Wi-Fi or 3G. You may still take 2D photos via the back camera or the VGA Front Camera. Mobile entertainment with A919 3D Duo which operates on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean is also set to be spectacular minus the spectacles. Enjoy on the go 3D entertainment with 3D games and 3D movies, and worry not over lagging as A919 3D Duo is powered by a 1GHz Dual-Core Processor.

There is still no info as to how much the A919 3D Duo will be once it’s released but I’ll keep you guys posted as soon as I find out.

From what I gather, the release date for this smartphone is very very near.

I think this is one device I’d like to really get my hands on as soon as it comes out.  Don’t worry, I’ll give a full review of the A919 3D Duo hopefully before it is actually released to the market.

What are your thoughts?  Excited?  Leave your comments below and let’s all talk about it.
